If I broke my mask,
{or someone else broke it for me, [hmm]}
              does that mean I'm finally free
              {of the person hidden within the Mask}?

                            or because this mask was made when I
                            knew
                            I needed to become a better person,
                            {a person who stopped hiding behind masks}
                            has this broken plastic-formed-flesh
                            unleashed
                            the ability to transform
                            {into the person that I will be not was},
                            so I no longer
                                           control
                            that ability myself?

{A slightly depressing concept
derived simply from noticing
how everything mundane
                            breaks.
How will we keep ourselves
              whole
when we, too, are mundane?}
                                                                      [That doesn't matter.
                                                                      Don't even bring it up.]

So the real question being
{the question stated in the beggining}:
                                          am I ready to be me
              or am I merely another faceless mask
                            in the human sea of Lies?

So, what's you answer to the question?

~~~
I was sitting in my room checking my email when my baby sister{she's 9} informed me that my mask was broken.
It made me sad; then it made me think.
Here is the spawn. I hope you enjoy.
The preview picture is the broken mask. I made it as apart of my role as a retreat leader. The theme was "Masks"[Duh!] and how we need to recognize our masks so we can take them off and be our true selves. It was a pretty good retreat.
As I wrote this, I also thought there might be a story I could write based on this theme. *shrugs*
It is hard to write critique for a poem. I would almost say that there are not bad poems only empty ones. But yours always have interesting ideas inside.
The masks? I see it this way: there are three kinds of those. The ones some people wear to get something. Those are the ones that would be better not used. The ones almost everyone wears sometimes to not hurt someone. Those are a big question. And finally those we do not know we wear. Those are a part of ourselves.
Thank you.
I think there is some poetry that is broken; either the ones that are empty, as you said, or ones that have the potential to be better, but the writer has not found a way to fully express themselves.
Hmmm... do you think we should have that 3rd kind of mask, or strip it from ourselves?
Ah, but there are shades of gray in almost everything. And as I say if we do not even know we are putting it up is that a reall mask at all? Or maybe the really bad things are under that mask. Then if that mask never comes down is that so wrong?
Well, the nature of a mask is that it is hiding one's true self. If we put it up accidentally or unconsiously, the mask is not apart of our true self, but the ability itself is.
If the bad things are under the mask, then you are abstructing your inherant bad nature. The fact that the mask hides this nature is good; the mask itself is not. We are all made as we are for a reason, and only when we are that true person, the person free of masks, can we acheive all of our true, fated goals.
I think.
Sounds deep. And it sounds kind of black-and-white. I really don't know how to explain the point exactly its more of a feeling, really. And please don't get me even started on fate.
That everyting is there for a reason is one thing we agree on, though.
